Parker Signs For $2.1 Million

The Diamondbacks have signed No. 9 overall pick Jarrod Parker for $2.1 million, up from his MLB recommended slot of $1.89 million. As with the three players taken directly behind him (Madison Bumgarner by the Giants, Phillippe Aumont by the Mariners, Matt Dominguez by the Marlins), Parker successfully held out for 2006 slot money rather than MLB’s 2007 recommendation.

With 45 minutes to go, three first-rounders remain unsigned: Mike Moustakas (No. 2, Royals), Josh Vitters (No. 3, Cubs) and Matt Wieters (No. 5, Orioles).

As a GT fan, I wasn’t surprised by this but somewhat disappointed. With J.Parker and N.Ramirez signed, hopefully Tech can hold onto Dietrich and Wieters….

For being one of the most likely to sign, Vitters sure is going to the last minute.

Good job Royals. there are now going to be indepentant league teams with deeper minor league systems than yours. No way this comes back to haunt us, right???

You are dang right, good job Royals!!! This system is a joke, you can’t trade picks and I’m sorry, this kid doesn’t feel like he can play baseball for 3 million a year… I hate to say this, but if this kid doesn’t pan out in the next three years in college, well, I won’t feel sorry for him at all… If you could start trading picks, the Royals could have gotten value out of the pick by trading down like every other professional sport but again, this is professional BASEBALL so what was I thinking… Hey, the Royals did what was right for baseball and something others should do and they’ll get two players of this quality next year anyway!!!
