McGeary Signs For $1.8 Million

This just in . . . Jack McGeary (sixth round) just signed with the Nationals. McGeary gets a $1.8 million bonus, which is a record for his round, and Washington will allow him to attend Stanford as a full-time student and play baseball in the summers until he graduates. The Nats are also picking up the cost of his education, with $200,000 via the college scholarship plan.

Whammy.

Great sign for the Nats! 3 solid lefty starters in one draft – all of whom had first round talent.

Signed over slot by a team left for dead by MLB. If MLB doesn’t “approve” of the signing over slot – stick it in their ear!

This is exactly the talent and morale boost the Nationals needed. If NY, Boston and Detroit were going to bust the slots, the Nats needed to establish they were serious, too.

Good for the Nats. As Roman said, MLB put them in a horrible situation with no money and no scouts. Sign every player over slot for all I care.

Everyone picked them to be one of the worst in history this year and look what they have done. They could be dangerous down the road with Kasten and the Lerners’.
