According to Jim Callis:

According to MLB, it's fine for the Royals to spend $5 million for one year of Reggie Sanders. But it's horrible, just horrible, to spend that much to sign Moustakas (not sure of his number, but that would have to be close). Which move would greater benefit the Royals? Easily Moustakas.

Don't try and tell me that the poor Royals can't afford this signing. What a joke. All this slot system is is a built in excuse for cheap teams like to Royals and Orioles to not spend money.

Listening to the sour grapes about the Yankees signing their players really makes me sick. Its not enough that the Yankees half of the salary of all of your teams, now they aren't allowed to spend their money on the future of the team? Why can't they spend what they want to on their draft? Why can't your teams spend some of the revenue sharing money instead of your owners putting the money into their pockets as profits. This slot system was borderline collusion and they have the right to spend as much as they want on amatuer players. Stop your whining and try and look at it objectively. The team already has to support half the franchises in baseball and now they are supposed to hurt themselves even more by losing players in the draft so they can make Selig happy. Should they act like the Orioles and not draft great players because they might be tough to sign? I thought that them paying 50 million a year in revenue sharing would finally shut you people up, but I guess you are always looking for something to whine about. I hope that next year they spend twice as much as they did this year

I have yet to hear of a MLB owner who is not a billionare. In fact owners such as Carl Pohlad (Twins) and David Glass (Royals) both have more money than Steinbrenner and Angelos has never been one to shy away from spending. Between revenue sharing and the luxury tax Bud Selig has done everything in his power to skew things in favor of the small market teams. At what point do the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Angels, Dodgers and other big market teams get to stop apologizing for doing well financially? If small market owners don't want to spend money on their teams then they should sell the teams to owners who will.

Right ... the Yankees are the only team in baseball paying over the recommmended slot. The Red Sox aren't doing it ... the Tigers aren't doing it ... The recommended slot just gives teams like the Royals more excuses for not spending money. Why don't these teams set aside some of the luxury tax money they're getting from the Yankees to sign their draft picks?

I'm sure Bud Selig is real proud of what the Yankees have done while teams like the Royals and Orioles try to adhere to his idiotic slotting ideas. Way to bring some equity to the table.

What a sickening article. As a fan of a team that sits alongside the other 28 teams who agreed to not ruin the future drafts by allowing agents to determine player values instead of having our scouts do it themselves, I'd just like to say thank you to the Yankees. You make us all really proud to be in a league with you. Is there ever an end to the Yankees and their fans being spoiled brats? Is there anything -- anything at all -- you Yankees fans don't believe you should own, take before everyone else or be able to spend more than anyone else to buy?
