With the first pick in the 46th round, the Devil Rays selected Elliot Glynn, a lefthander form Wilson High in Long Beach, Calif.
A week ago today, Glynn pitched Wilson High to the CIF Southern Section Division-I title at Dodger Stadium. Wilson High entered the game as the No. 1 ranked team in the Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association Top 50 poll, and its the frontrunner to finish the season as the No. 1 team, which would be the third time in five years that a California school finished atop the poll.
Glynn’s a pitchability lefty who has committed to Connecticut and was not expected to be swayed from school by the temptation of signing with the Devil Rays. He was lauded for his makeup and poise during Wilson High’s run to the title.
His teammate, junior outfielder Aaron Hicks, is one f the top prospects in the high school Class of 2008.
