Round 27: Red Sox Take Grandal; Angels Snag Signal Caller Again

Yas Grandal entered his senior season with the tag of the nation’s top prep catcher. Pennsylvania’s Devin Mesoraco surpassed him with his breakout senior season, but Grandal remains a potential front-line catcher. He slipped based on signability, but as a switch-hitter with some pop and plus catch and throws skills, he’s a player Boston would like to sign away from Miami.

The Angles drafted Patrick White out of Daphne (Ala.) High in 2004 in the fourth round, but watched him race off to West Virginia where he has developed into a Heisman trophy-caliber quarterback for the Mountaineers. So they took a flier on him in the 27th round this time around.
