Brad – that call at 3rd base was "bang-bang" and could have gone either way. Had the runner been called out, I wouldn't have blinked. "Horrendous?" you say? Watch the replay if you can. The runner slid into the tag with one limb but had the other limb extended right at the base. In the umpire's judgment in REAL time, he touched the base with the opposite limb first and that's how he called it. That's a judgment call. On the so-called throwing "E" on the Vandy 3rd baseman, the umps must have been asleep or had their eyes closed to have "blown" that OBVIOUS call. It was not a judgment call and it totally changed the game and likely the outcome. Without it, there is a man at 2nd with 2 outs after the strike out. Instead, with runners at first and third with one out, Vandy is compelled to walk a man to load the bases and set up the any base DP. YOU GOT A HUGE GIFT FROM THE UMPIRES. It, unlike the others, had INDISPUTABLE video evidence AND it happened in the 9th inning AND it led to to 3 runs including the go ahead and winning runs. THAT'S WHY it can not be compared to any other call in the series.

Credit to State for hanging in but the umpiring in this regional was suspect and that ninth inning play where the runner obviously obstructed was so obvious that it was not funny.

Oh, really? So that was the only bad call of the game? I believe I remember a few that went both ways.

No doubt the call was missed and I am really not sure how. The home plate umpire has a great look at it and either he was not looking or was afraid to make the call. Even the NC State announcer on the video feed admitted the Pack received a big break. You never know how things would have turned out, maybe NC State wins anyway, but as the other commenter said 1st and 3rd with nobody out is a lot better than just a runner on 2nd with one out.

The bad calls went both ways. The blown call at 3rd base in one of the games where the Vandy runner slid into the 3rd basemans tag and they called him safe, and he went on to score, was horrendous. From what I saw it looked like the Pack got more of the bad calls … I guess it depends on which team you pull for. Either way both teams had to overcome the officiating and in the end the Pack prevailed.

That "error" in the ninth that led to the bases being loaded was an error on the umpires NOT Vandy. After the lead off single, on the sacrifice bunt, the batter ran well inside the baseline all the way to first. There was NO path for the ball to reach first and thus it hit the batter, who should have been out. Totally changed the game with men on 1st and 3rd with no outs instead of man at 2nd with one out. Give a HUGE assist to the poor umpiring.
