Comments on: Day Two CWS Picks Have SEC Flavor

As a Gamecock fan, I will have to admit that Florida and, maybe Florida State, deserved to be seeded higher than the Gamecocks if you try to analyze the teams based on regular season record, pre-CWS, and star quality. I believe, at the same time, the writers acknowledged the intangibles that the Gamecocks have. But before the first games were played who KNEW those intangibles would enable the Gamecocks to pull it off in their game against the #1 seed, and with five starters new to the lineup? I suspect that our beating Florida in a quality fashion has opened the eyes of many who are now believers. Who will pick against the Gamecocks now? Not Sports Illustrated. Not the Omaha World-Herald.

I have to remind you guys: it really doesn’t matter if we pick against South Carolina or not. We’ve picked in favor of the Gamecocks plenty of times during this 22-game stretch (John and I both picked them to win their regional and super regional this year, for instance), and they keep on winning whether we pick for them or against them. They’re just a machine.

Well, you have to admit that USC is not a flashy, arrogant team, and they do win with class….They are just playing the game the way that non-professionals should do it…by having fun!! And the 22 game NCAA winning streak has been FUN!!!

I think most of my fellow Gamecocks and I have a complex where we take our slights a little more personally as this baseball team is the true epitome of a team despite Florida's overwhelming talent and while I hesitate to speak for them, I think deep in our hearts we were all a little worried the magic would end Saturday night. I'm sure glad it didn't.

Keep picking against South Carolina. One day you may be right — but more importantly, it seems to be a talisman. When you pick against them — they WIN. So remember: Arkansas is hot, their ace is on the mound and he is unstoppable in Omaha. Your mantra: "it is silly to pick against the Gamecocks, but I've got to do it again".

lol Aaron, please don't let that small percentile of Gamecock fans to make you think any less of our fan base. The win was nice, especially over the team that we played in the fashion that it happened, but there is still a lot of baseball to be played. I enjoy hearing your insight on the halftime show, and even the best of us have to be wrong sometimes =).

Come on guys. You do realize that virtually everyone (literally EVERYONE that I know) has a huge amount of respect and regard for your 2 time defending champion Gamecocks. It's hard not to like Tanner and that team. I know you guys are fired up about your club, but, how about spending your energy rooting for them instead of lashing out at people.

Picking the higher seed is safe and easy, but real insight is harder to come by. Florida looked great on paper, but they don't play the game on paper. Ray Tanner just finds a way to win in Omaha.

Time and time again people have picked against Roth. Time and time again he has proven them wrong. He has gone up against the best that other teams have to offer, Being a Friday starter in the SEC, he has faces the aces of the other teams. He has listened to reporters talk about how good his counterparts are and that he does not have MLB stuff. Blah blah blah; Roth is a WINNER, a proven winner

I think it's funny that you both say it's "ridiculous" and "silly" to pick against the gamecocks and then turn around and do it.
We probably haven't been the most talented team the last two years either but that didn't keep us from winning. No faith.

John- About these "good swings" you saw the gators get against Roth in columbia…Where were they? From what i remember, and going by the stat sheet, the gators had 4 hits total against Roth and 1 earned run. All 4 of the hits were singles. I understand everyone is required to pick the gators because they have the most MLB talent, but at least don't throw out some random statement that it's because they had some good swings against Roth(which isn't true) all the way back in March!
