Chris, by staying around .500 in the SEC (the best league in the country), Georgia had propped up its case, but its series loss this weekend really puts it back in precarious ground. Certainly not "safely in" any longer.

Can somebody explain to me how Georgia is safely in?

One series win over Ole Miss? How is that more impressive than any of the ACC bubble teams that you have in or out?

No belittling. The Top 25 Tracker does refer to records against our Top 25 (and that does refer to how teams were ranked at the time of the meetings), so I can see why that might be confusing. That's why I make an effort to specify repeatedly in Stock Report that I'm referring to records vs. the top 25 in the RPI.

Trying to belittle me. What a class act you are. I went to your top 25 tracker page and you do not denote anywhere that the vs Top 25 you have is the vs top 25 RPI. A person can only assume you are implying your own top 25 poll.

Actually, TC, Florida's record vs. OUR top 25 is 18-10. That 16-9 figure is Florida's record against the Top 25 in the RPI -- which is what is used by the selection committee. In Stock Report, I always refer to records against the top 25, 50 and 100 in the RPI -- I thought I've made that awfully clear every week.

I know what you mean, Dave. I also prefer to reward teams for quality wins rather than dock them for bad RPI games.

The way Baseball America determines a teams record vs their top 25 is deceiving. If you get a win over a ranked team at that particular week, they count it for the rest of the season even if that ranked team falls out of their top 25. This is ludicrous. The top 25 changes every week and teams records vs their top 25 should change with it. For example, they beat it into your head about Florida's 'whopping" (are you all a lobbyist for Florida?) 16-9 record against your top 25. I checked the four top SEC teams records vs this week's top 25 and found that Florida's record is 12-7, Kentucky's record is 8-6, LSU's record is 6-6, and South Carolina's is 2-5 for the season against their current top 25.

Your explanation on East Carolina compared with Tulane makes a lot of sense. However, it shows how ludicrous the RPI can be. Basically, had Tulane scheduled more teams in the 125-150 range rather than teams well above 200 their RPI would be much better. In other words, beating the likes of The Citadel and North Florida11 times is more impressive than beating the likes of Brown & Alcorn State. Everybody had cupcackes on their schedule. Tulane cupacakes are just less flavorful.

Very solid Stock Report. There are a couple of teams that I would put in ahead of bubble power conference teams but other than that I'd have to agree with the great majority of what is in this one. Nice job.

[...] 244 Stock report from Baseball America; Big 12 (4 bids) SAFELY IN: Baylor, Texas A&M ON THE BUBBLE (IN): Oklahoma, Texas ON THE BUBBLE (OUT): Oklahoma State One change from last week: Oklahoma re-enters our field of 64 after a one-week absence. Sweeping Baylor catapulted the Sooners 21 spots to No. 46 in the RPI, gave them a signature series win, improved them to 5-3 in the RPI and allowed them to salvage a respectable 13-10 record in Big 12 play. They're in very good shape if they can finish with a series win against Samford, and they have a chance to get in even with a series loss to the Bulldogs. Texas (No. 50 in the RPI) continues to teeter on the bubble after sweeping a pair of games against Texas Southern. The Longhorns finish with Baylor, with the opener in Waco and the last two in Austin. If they win that series, they'll climb back into the top 45 in the RPI and should be safe. If they lose that series, they'll need to do some work in the conference tournament to bolster their chances. Oklahoma State remains tied with Texas and Teas A&M for second place (13-8, five games behind Baylor), but the Cowboys are still just 79th in the RPI, and even a sweep of Texas A&M this weekend won't boost that RPI into the top 45. Power conference teams do not get at-large bids with RPIs outside the top 50, so Oklahoma State seems like a long shot barring a big weekend against the Aggies and more quality wins in the conference tournament.
