The NCAA has announced the 16 regional hosts, and there is one big surprise in the field. UCLA was selected to host and is the only site Aaron Fitt did not correctly project in today’s mini stock report.
The hosts are as follows:
Arizona State
Cal State Fullerton
Clemson
Florida
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Oregon State
North Carolina
Rice
South Carolina
Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Christian
Vanderbilt
Virginia
UCLA
UCLA likely will not be seeded No. 1 in its regional when the full brackets are released tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. Arkansas, the SEC West champion, may travel west to Los Angeles as the No. 1 seed, as Florida State did last year in the Norwich Regional.

My guess is that UCLA will be a #1 seed. Can't imagine why a #1 seed Arkansas would have to travel to California. Hogs will be a #2, which is fair given that they almost didn't make their own conference tournament.
Posted by Brian | May 29, 2011 at 3:19 pm | ShortcutTCU doesn't deserve a regional after losing to a team 20 games under .500 in the MWC tourney. Four regionals in Texas is insane.
Posted by Daniel | May 29, 2011 at 4:15 pm | Shortcutwow, way to Job the Sec and the Razorbacks NCAA, Pac10 didn't deserve three hosts, I guess they don't like making money or rewarding teams for good seasons anymore

Are you kidding me? UCLA? What the heck? Don't get that one!
Posted by hsp | May 29, 2011 at 6:12 pm | ShortcutThe fact Arkansas is not hosting and UCLA and Clemson (or several others) are is amazing. The NCAA has, once again, proven what they are worth. Diddly squat.
Posted by Drite | May 29, 2011 at 6:52 pm | ShortcutSending Arkansas as a #1 seed to UCLA makes no sense wahtsoever. Arkansas would jam close to 10,000 fans into their place while UCLA barely holds 2000 fans. The NCAA isn't so stupid as to cost itself 8000 paying customers if the seeding turns out to be Ark #1 and UCLA #2.
Posted by Doug | May 29, 2011 at 8:02 pm | ShortcutHow the hell does Fresno State not get a regional with a 40-14 record and a #21 rpi? Oregon State didn't deserve a regional. Not a conference champion, lower rpi than Fresno State, and 0-2 head to head against Fresno State. There is no argument you can make on Earth why Oregon State got a regional over Fresno State.
Posted by John | May 29, 2011 at 8:05 pm | ShortcutExplain that one to me.
UCLA is on a hot streak right now and should be rewarded with a regional. I think the PAC 10 champion deserves to host, since it is one of the most competitive leagues. Plus they just took 2 of 3 at ASU
Posted by cameron | May 29, 2011 at 8:49 pm | ShortcutHow does Clemson host a Regional? Conference record barely .500. No ACC torurnament championship game.
Posted by Jim Dowland | May 29, 2011 at 9:30 pm | ShortcutThe NCAA is losing creditability daily. Arkansas deserves to host a regional. Maybe the selection committee will explain their selections.
Posted by Michael | May 29, 2011 at 10:00 pm | ShortcutThe NCAA and ESPN desparately want Cole and Bauer in the CWS, as do I, but as a fan of college baseball in general, wow that choice is indefensible. What the NCAA needed to do was find UCLA an offense.

Posted by Brian | May 30, 2011 at 9:12 am | ShortcutNice projections – I bet that is pretty close. Off the top of my head, I'd say that Kansas State is a spot too high and Miami a spot too low. And Creighton, definitely too low. I think the Jays could be seeded second somewhere. Actually, just switch Creighton and KSU, then bump KSU to third in that regional and move Oral Robert down to 4th. That should do it. Except Miami still deserves a 2 seed, so swap them and Alabama.
No LSU, Arkansas at #2 seed in Tempe, Texas in a cake walk region, St John's in the tourney…..NCAA missed on many teams.
