[...] Matt Purke (8 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K) bounced back from a rocky outing last week to pitch well in a no-decision Saturday, as TCU beat Air Force, 3-2. For all the wringing of hands about Purke’s “struggles,” his season numbers look just fine: 3-1, 1.16 with 35 strikeouts and 10 walks in 31 innings. Opponents are hitting .193 against him—but he has allowed nine unearned runs. – http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/college/2011/04/saturday-roundup-terps-finally-top-noles [...]

Fair enough, Aaron. We're hoping the D-bags can wrangle enough consistency to change the picture in the conference a bit.
Thanks for the response...

Hey Tom -- the main reason is the Big West just doesn't look particularly strong this year. Fullerton and Irvine look like the only teams with realistic postseason ambitions at this juncture. I usually think of the Big West and Conference USA as pretty comparable leagues, right behind the Big Four (Pac-10, ACC, SEC, Big 12), but this year CUSA is considerably stronger than the Big West.

Okay Aaron, I'll admit it- I'm gonna join the whining fan crowd and ask why no Big West recap. And the only BW mention is the usual Fullerton?
The Dirtbags clinched their opening series as well, outscoring Pacific (who has a better record than Davis, btw) 25-3 in the first two. A 23-hit attack on Friday night resulted in a 20-0 win.
Somebody can call the Whaaambulance now. :)
