College Roundup: Fallout from Jackson State-Prairie View Incident

Jackson State has fired assistant coach Kevin Whiteside in the wake of an on-field altercation with Prairie View A&M on Saturday. Whiteside had been fined $2,000 and suspended six games by the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Four players were also suspended three games apiece: JSU's Kendall Logan and Marshall Hall, and Prairie View's Evan Richard and Andre Oliver. Both universities were fined $1,000 for the players' involvement in the fight.

Elsewhere, Oregon salvaged a split of its four-game series at Hawaii with a 4-3 win Monday behind a strong start from righty Alex Keuedell (5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 9 K). Oregon's decisive two-run sixth was keyed by freshman Stefan Sabol's leadoff triple.

And Fresno State finished up a 3-0 weekend with its second straight win against Oregon State. Austin Wynns delivered a walk-off RBI single in the ninth to give Fresno a 5-4 win Monday. The Bulldogs also beat the Beavers 2-1 on Sunday and topped Gonzaga 10-4 on Saturday.
