A Big Deal

OMAHA—I just got an e-mail from a friend of mine, Brian MacPherson, who covers the Red Sox for the Providence Journal. He said he was chatting with Boston reliever Scott Atchison, a Texas Christian alum, about the College World Series.

Last weekend during the super regionals, Atchison demanded Boston's clubhouse television be tuned in to the TCU-Texas game, and he has insisted again today that the TV is on ESPN for the College World Series. MacPherson asked Atchison if he was talking trash or making a friendly wager with Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew (a famous Florida State product, of course). Atchison responded that he wasn't even sure if Drew knows the Seminoles are in Omaha—they're in the CWS every year, after all.

"This is a big deal for us," he said.

TCU still leads, 7-1, after seven innings. I'd say TCU is the favorite in this game, but a Horned Frogs victory over the Seminoles in Omaha would still be, well, a big deal.

Great article but are you trying to tell us a Major League clubhouse has only ONE TV in it? I have been in a few in my life and noticed several TVs there. If there was only one good for the kid to pull this off.

From what I understand, Fenway’s clubhouse is probably the smallest in the majors, but we’ll email Brian and confirm the number of TVs for you . . .
