Wednesday Highlights: Louisville Rallies To Beat Kentucky



Showdown of the day:

Freshman Zak Wasserman capped Louisville's four-run ninth inning with a walk-off RBI single to give Louisville a 10-9 win in a back-and-forth contest against rival Kentucky.  The Cardinals led 5-4 with two outs in the eighth when nearly untouchable closer Neil Holland was summoned with the bases loaded. Holland got Louisville out of the jam with a strikeout, but Kentucky got to him for five runs in the top of the ninth to take a 9-6 lead. But Louisville responded in the bottom of the frame to split the season series against Kentucky. The game drew a Louisville regular-season-record crowd of 4,039.

Other showdowns:

• Wichita State over Oklahoma State, 13-7
• Southern Mississippi over South Alabama, 15-5

Upset of the day:

Central Connecticut State stunned No. 20 Connecticut, 7-3, to snap UConn's 22-game winning streak. The Blue Devils scored four in the second inning and held on for the win behind four scoreless innings of relief from Dave Krasnowiecki. The Huskies had survived a six-game week and two five-game weeks during their streak, before finally losing a game in their third straight five-game week.

Other upsets:

• Baylor over No. 11 Texas Christian, 14-4, behind four hits apiece from Raynor Campbell and Joey Hainsfurther
• UC Davis over No. 23 California, 6-5

Hitter of the day:

Creighton Sr. C Carson Vitale: 5-for-5, 3 R, 8 RBI, 2B, 2 HR in 15-10 win vs. Iowa

Pitcher of the day:

North Carolina Fr. RHP Chris Munnelly: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K in 5-0 win at Charlotte
