Historical note -- I believe that Arizona has passed on hosting a regional several years in the past. A couple of years ago they were a 1 seed on the road.

Aaron,

Thanks, as always, for the write-ups. Lots can happen in May, conference tourneys included, but it seems at this early stage like regional hosts are shaping up as:

4 SEC (USC, Arkansas, Florida + LSU or Ole Miss)
4 ACC (UVa, GT, FSU + Miami or maybe VT (Miami still has @GT and UVa to go. VT RPI is low but BIG road series wins @ FSU and @ GT. Tourney may decide this one.)
ASU, UCLA, UT
Coastal Carolina
Big East (Can Louisville hold off UConn? Undefeated for April-wow)
2nd Texas (Can TCU hold off Rice with Oklahoma a dark horse?)
Fullerton (unless they falter with weak schedule down stretch)
Gotta think a 3rd Pac 10 team among Arizona (RPI=13), Stanford (21) or Oregon (29) will beat out a 5th SEC squad (Ole Miss=22) right now.

It can't possibly stay like that, can it? Of course not, it's baseball...Or can it?

IMO you critized Kansas St. a bit too much in this week's write-up. Yes I know they lost 2 games to MU this past weekend, but did you happen to see pictures and/or video of these games??? 1st of all their Fri night and Sat DH were cancelled due to close to flooding on the field. Sunday was a Must play no matter the weather conditions. The field was an absolute mess and it rained more on them during play Sunday. You actually could not watch much of the game b/c they couldn't keep the video camera lenses dry. I understand Mizzou played in the exact same conditions, but what was played last Sunday was not baseball. It looked more like water polo with the players trying to keep their heads above water. It's a shame KSU will suffer from that.

Aaaron I have a question? I have followed college baseball actively since 99 but only started following the nuts and bolts of the game this year the dreaded RPI. Looking at Coastal's schedule they have played one weekend series against a top 35 RPI team and they lost the series at home to San Diego. I have a hard time giving a ton of credit for midweek wins since neither team pitches their aces. Isn't that what separates the top teams in the country from the rest usually the weekend rotations?

Last week I commented on South Alabama and used them as an example. They have a big home series against FAU in Mobile this weekend. USA needs to take two out of three and they should be in the tournament. I know the RPI isn't among the highest, but the committee will reward the conference leader from the #5 conference. Like I said last week, I think that the Sun belt has to be a three bid league.

Texas continues to play very well and now w/ the hitting coming full circle, this team could very well get back to Omaha for a record time. If the hitting or team batting avg can stay close to .300, then watch out. The pitching is above avg as is the defense.

Have to admit -- last week I chastised you for leaving Oregon State out, but the Beavers have not done anything to help their cause by fading so badly. They still can make up ground with Oregon, Washington, and Arizona going to Corvallis, but they can't afford to scuffle like they have been. As a fan of another Pac 10 school, I'd love to see the conference get their due for once, especially in a season when the depth is better than it's been at any time in recent memory.
