What Year Is It, Anyway?

OMAHA—Texas just keeps on bashing, and I keep on thinking it’s 1998 again. The Longhorns have now hit five home runs in this game, tying the Finals single-game record set in—you guessed it—1998 by Southern California, in the infamous 21-14 game against Arizona State.

It’s 6-4 Texas, and five of the Longhorns’ runs have come on the long ball. The crazy thing about this is Texas hit just 39 home runs in 61 games coming into Omaha, but the ‘Horns have 11 (and counting) in four CWS games.

In case you’re wondering, the record for most home runs in any CWS game is eight. Guess which year it was set?

If you guessed 1998, you are correct! LSU set that record against Southern California—and it was not the same game the Tigers hit three home runs in an inning. That happened against Mississippi State two days later.
