Texas' 6 rings came in 1949, '50, '75, '83, '02, '05. LSU is probably the only program, with its 5 rings since '91 that can credibly invoke that standard, but they're in an 8 year "drought" and have been suspect of an aluminum 90's flash in the pan. This year's Tiger squad may put that suspicion to rest. USC's 12, the true great granddaddy of the sport, certainly can't invoke it, given its fall from greatness. There were morons who wanted to fire Augie at Texas cuz he wasn't winning hardware fast enough... but the last time they did was in 83! It's a ridiculously false bravado that Texas sings down there. Certainly the standard is getting to Omaha and making a good dent or its a disastrous year, but a championship every year as the expectation is a roll your eyes song at best. That said, if Texas & Augie, who I will be pulling for, win their third NC since '02, and 7th overall, will have made my above argument null & void.
