Learn Your Lusson

OMAHA—As we head to the 11th inning, it’s worth noting that a combined five starters are out of the game. LSU pinch-ran for No. 7 hitter Sean Ochinko and pinch-hit for No. 9 hitter Austin Nola, then just moved players around defensively. Texas, meanwhile, will play the rest of the game without two of its most dangerous hitters: cleanup man Russell Moldenhauer (who has three homers in the CWS) and No. 6 hitter Kevin Keyes (who went deep in the fourth inning today), as well as No. 8 hitter Preston Clark. Moldenhauer and Keyes were replaced by brothers Kevin and Kyle Lusson, each of whom were retired in Texas’ quiet 10th inning. But LSU’s subs are Leon Landry and Tyler Hanover, who are both comparable or superior offensively to the players they replaced.
