OMAHA—Freshman center fielder Mikie Mahtook lined an RBI single to center field in the top of the 11th inning to give Louisiana State a 7-6 win against Texas in the first game of the College World Series Finals on Monday night. Another freshman, righthanded closer Matty Ott, worked three scoreless, hitless innings to pick up the win.
We’ll have plenty more on this gem of a CWS Finals opener after postgame.

Neither team deserved to lose. Congratulations on the game one victory to LSU. They showed some real heart tonight. We’ll see if Texas can respond tomorrow. Hook ‘em Horns!

Wow! These teams brought out the suspense! Texas showing power by putting on a show with the long ball while LSU came up with a “Texas Style” come from behind win! I don’t know if I can watch another one of these nerve racking games. Two of the best programs in College Baseball….did you espect anything less than a showdown as we’ve seen tonight? Congrats Tigers! Lets finish this off tomorrow! GEAUX TIGERS!
