OMAHA—Starters Mike Leake and Cole Green have given way to each team’s lefthanded bullpen stalwart. Texas senior closer Austin Wood has looked much better through two innings today than he has since his already-legendary 13-inning performance against Boston College in regionals. Wood has worked two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and inducing four groundball outs. His fastball has regained its life, and his changeup is darting away from righthanded hitters.
ASU has countered with freshman closer Mitchell Lambson, who has worked two perfect innings so far, striking out four. Settle in, folks. We’re still tied 2-2 heading into the ninth, and this one could go on for a while.
