Amazing Finish Sends Texas To Finals

OMAHA—Friday started with rain and lighnting and ended with thunder. After Arizona State took a 3-2 lead on Zach Wilson’s RBI triple i the top of the ninth inning, Texas responded with two homers against Mitchell Lambson in the bottom of the frame to win 4-3 and clinch a trip to the CWS Finals against Louisiana State.

After Lambson struck out Brandon Loy to open the ninth, the Sun Devils were just two outs away from forcing a decisive game tomorrow. But the next hitter, Cameron Rupp, crushed a 3-and-1 fastball over the hitter’s eye in center field to tie the ballgame. After catcher Presto Clark popped out, Connor Rowe drilled a game-winning solo shot to right field. Who’s questioning the Texas offense now?

Of course we’ll have plenty more on this classic after postgame.

I’ve been saying it throughout the postseason — this Texas team is clutch! They don’t mind playing ahead, in tight games, or even from behind. They have nerves of steel and a deep pitching staff. In Monday and Tuesday’s games, they’ll have Ruffin, Jungmann, Dicharry, Workman, and Wood ready to go. If it goes to a third game in the championship series, I think Texas will win because of their pitching depth. Hook ‘em Horns!

Arron,
Thanks for the comments. Your eyes show it. Texas indeed has some intangibles that come through under pressure. Garrido has some tools.

LSU looks like a great team at the top of their game and the CWS stats (excepting the W-L) show the championship to be the Tigers to lose.

Lets play the games and see it Texas can get some pressure on them. It is the one Tiger area that has not been tested in the CWS and it is pressure that is winning it for the Horns.

Thanks for the coverage!

Eric
