They Keep Going, And Going, And Going . . .

IRVINE, Calif.—The UC Irvine-Virginia game started about four hours later than the Texas-Boston College game, but this game is over at Anteater Ballpark, and the Eagles and Longhorns are still going in the bottom of the 24th inning. I promise you, I will have a blog post later tonight with actual insights on Virginia’s 5-0 win, but it’s hard not to be mesmerized by the proceedings in Austin. Sadly, I’m going to have to put aside my video feed to attend the post-game press conference here. I’m sure the Texas-BC game will be waiting for me when I get back . . .

By the way, that is now the longest game in NCAA baseball history, postseason or otherwise. The previous record was a 23-inning contest between Louisiana-Lafayette and McNeese State on March 27, 1971.

Wow, just, wow. 1:51 am here in Delaware, and I just CAN’T STOP WATCHING THIS GAME!!! I hope they’re done by the time you update the blog, Aaron!

Almost more impressive to me at this point than the length of the game is that Boston College has given up just two runs on NINETEEN HITS! That has to be some sort of record for least runs on most hits (if there is such a thing).

The Longhorns just got a run in the 25th. Amazing game!

Sorry, Boston College, I must have jinxed you. No sooner do I make my previous comment does Texas get hit number 20 to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the 25th….feels a bit strange to say ‘top of the 25th’…..

And that’s it, folks. Texas beats BC 3-2 in the 25th after getting a run generated from a leadoff walk in the top of the 25th. Congrats to both teams for an amazing game, and here’s to hoping for more tourney magic!

Man, I’m a sucker for a kid (especially a senior) putting his whole team on his back and carrying them. Austin Wood just became a Texas sports legend.
