I've heard alot about his defensive abilities and his 1.86 pop time(i catch in high school, so i can really appreciate that), but what about his offense? What can he bring to the table as far as power and average go. And what kind of stats do you expect from him this year?

Stock is on the Cotuit Keteleers' roster in the Cape Cod Baseball League this season. The Cape has been a great showcase for young catching talent from Fisk many years ago through Mitch Canham of the OSU Beavers this past season.

As the #13 ranked freshman he will be a must see act on the Cape this summer.

Dan, you bring up an important point about Stock--his mentality really sets him apart. In fact, Chad Kreuter seemed more impressed with his makeup than anything else when I spoke with him yesterday. "His head's on straight, he's mature, he has a perfect baseball mentality," Kreuter said. "It's so refreshing to see."

I was lucky to get to see Stock play several times last year, including during AFLAC week. I remember being a little worried about him. He seemed to have a tough time behind the plate, even holding on to pitches seemed to give him trouble at times. He seemed to have a lot of natural ability, but it just wasn't as put together as some of the other high schoolers I was watching. The thing that really struck me about Stock however, maybe more than anything else I saw during AFLAC week, was how he was always watching what was happening on the field, always listening to the coaches even when they weren't talking to him. The other players spent a lot of time talking amongst themselves or watching the stands, but everytime I looked at Stock he was fixed on what was happening on the field. It seemed like he was always trying to learn, pick up something new. I also was lucky enough to bump into Stock and his father one night during AFLAC week, and spoke with them very briefly. I asked them how their week was going, and their answer revolved around hearing Mrs. Jackie Robinson speak at the AFLAC dinner and how they were really struck with all of the things that came before them, and the realization that sometimes baseball transcends sports. I walked away thinking that this kid really "gets" it. So I'm not terribly surprised to hear how quickly his skills are improving at USC. I really think that Stock has the skills, attitude and willingness to learn to accomplish whatever he wants to accomplish. I'm anxious to get a chance to see him play for the Trojans.
