"It's like when you look at a piece of art and it is beautiful and you can't understand why," Wellman said. "That is how his swing is. You can't pinpoint why it is more beautiful than others, but you can tell that it is."

Ryan Dent, an 18-year-old shortstop (no relation to Yankees villain Bucky Dent) out of Wilson High in Long Beach was one of the most athletic players in the 2007 draft. Clocked at 4.1 seconds to first base out of the righthanded batter's box, the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder hit .474 with 29 RBIs and 28 steals. The Sox selected him No. 62 overall.
